Library-cum-Documentation Centre (NCCL Library)
NCCL library is one of the most specialized libraries with facility of research, reference and lending for professionals working in the field of children’s literature. It is well connected with all the organizations, institutions, NGOs active in the field of promotion of children’s literature across India.
Aesthetics of the library
The library has been specially designed and given an artistic look by depicting Panchtantra tales on its outside wall through wooden cut out of the characters from Panchatantra stories. The animated colourful picture wall at the activity-cum-display corner attracts the visitors. The white clouds structured at the ceiling can motivate one put on one’s imaginative cap! The shelves have been designed so as to accommodate and exhibit the children’s literature of all foreign and Indian languages in an aesthetic manner based on the genre/age-group/language classification of the same. This is a unique attempt to showcase the best Indian children’s literature of its kind in the country.
Classification and content of the library
The library has been developed considering the needs of children’s literature among authors, scholars, illustrators, publishers, and the whole community of creators associated with it. Library has collection of selected 16,000 quality books of children’s literature in 43 Indian and 32 foreign languages from across the country. These are arranged and kept according to their subjects such as Picture books, Short stories, Poetry, Drama, Fiction, Comics, Folk literature, Biography, Geography & Travel, Science & Technology, etc. The collection includes 600 reference books on children’s content including classics and religious texts of Indian culture, Children’s Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Atlas, etc. The library also subscribes more than 15 popular children’s magazines such as Champak, Bal Hans, Bachhon ka Desh, Tinkle, Magic Pot, etc. 50 DVDs of children’s content are available for viewing and use of the library members.
Membership
One may become member of library by paying Rs. 100/- as one time membership fee and Rs. 500/- as refundable security deposit.
Free temporary membership (Reading room facility only) for outstation experts on visit to Delhi for library consultation is also available.

Reading room facility for consulting the library’s resources.
The library is connected with the database of 5,000 libraries through DELNET in India and abroad.
Activities
Library holds storytelling/author’s reading sessions, Illustration workshops and other literary activities for children and young adults.
Events are organized engaging with eminent National and International Writers, Illustrators, Journalists, Publishers, Scholars and other professionals in the field.
The library holds exhibition of theme based select books annually in the New Delhi World Book Fair.
The library is also open to school children for group visit.
