Policies for the Poor and Marginals: A Study of Garib Kalyan Schemes in India is an attempt to understand and document how various policies of the Garib Kalyan Schemes introduced and implemented in our society have impacted the life of poor and marginal communities. The study focuses on the flag- ship scheme called 'Garib Kalyan Yojana' which comprises of the following schemes- Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna Gramin (PMAY-G), a central government scheme introduced in April 2016 to address the gap in rural housing to provide "Housing for All"; Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna rolled out in March 2020 for free distribution of foodgrain to marginalised section of society during COVID-19 with special reference to Uttar Pradesh; Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojna, a flagship scheme to provide clean source of energy to deprived house- holds; Deendayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojna, a scheme for ru- ral electrification of the entire households in the country: Jan Dhan Yojna scheme aims for financial inclusion by presenting solutions to the current economic problems faced by the com- mon people; Swachh Bharat Mission, a flagship program and an initiative by the Government of India to eliminate open defeca- tion and improve solid waste management both in rural as well as urban area; Jal Jeevan Mission launched on 15 August 2019 with the mission to provide tapped water connection to every households in rural areas by the year 2024.
